About

With his roots in New York City, his heart in Vienna, and his boots in Portland, Kai began experimenting with photography when he was living in Vienna. This formative experience helped solidify his desire to see the world. After graduation he went from student to teacher, working as an assistant art teacher at the Danube International School in Vienna. It was during that time that he understood his passion for creating and working with children. After living in Vienna for almost 4 years, Kai relocated to Portland to attend Lewis & Clark College, not before a gap year spent visiting friends around the globe from Amsterdam to Bangkok.

While at Lewis & Clark, Kai failed his first photography class, citing the rigid boundaries and structure as limiting to his creative pursuits. He spent many long nights camped out in the darkroom and when asked why Kai simply replied, “I would rather be here [in the darkroom] at 4 in the morning than rowing on the Willamette.” Kai spend his first year rowing on the varsity crew team, breaking records. Unfortunately, that was not the only thing he broke. Due to his injury, he was able to invest his time on his photographic endeavors. Today, he continues to travel, taking frequent trips to Los Angeles, New York, and Tokyo to visit family and friends, camera always in hand.
